Police with long guns responded to the scene and took over while citizens were restraining the offender. Once police police released the Good Samaritan(s) of their hold on the offender, the offender was shot and killed. A video of the suspect being shot was captured by a motorist on the London Bridge. Initially there was not report that the suspect was killed, but it is likely that he suffered from mortal wounds from two close range shots by long guns.
At least one video of the shooting was removed by Twitter for violating Twitter policies.
Prior to the shooting, a man was seen carrying an approximately 8-inch knife safely away from the scene where police and bystanders were struggling with the offender.

Several crews from the London Ambulance Service responded to the scene, along with Metropolitan Police and City of London Police. The City of London Police is a territorial police force responsible for law enforcement within the City of London — a square mile primarily financial district, including the Middle and Inner temples. The police force responsible for law enforcement for the Greater London area is the larger Metropolitan Police Service, which is a separate police organization.
