The Arlington Heights holiday tree lighting ceremony is a week away. The Village of Arlington Heights is welcoming residents to celebrate at the annual Tree Lighting ceremony held at North School Park, Eastman and Arlington Heights Road, on Friday, November 29 starting at 4 p.m. The village recommends families, friends, neighbors and holiday guests to enjoy this festive celebration!
There are free rides on the Holly Trolleys from 4-7 p.m., sponsored by the Village’s Special Events Commission. The trolleys will pick-up and drop-off riders at North School Park and take them to the Historical Museum, Metropolis and Harmony Park, at Vail and Campbell. An ice sculptor will be creating holiday-themed ice carvings in Harmony Park from 4-7 p.m., and those who stop by can also have a free holiday portrait taken by Bravo4studio based in Arlington Heights from 4-7 p.m.!
The gathering for the traditional Tree Lighting ceremony in North School Park begins at 4:30 p.m. with a performance by the Arlington Heights Park District’s Vibe Dancers, followed by a performance of the Dickens Carolers from John Hersey High School at 4:45 p.m.
Following the carolers, Park District Board President Maryfran Leno and Arlington Heights Mayor Hayes will make a few brief comments and join in the countdown to “flip the switch” that magically activates the lights of the holiday tree in North School Park, the park’s toy-themed displays, as well as the streetscape lights throughout the Downtown.
This year’s holiday tree sitting atop the fountain at North School Park, which was delivered and set-up by the Village’s Public Works Department, is a Colorado Blue Spruce donated by the Balmer family from South Dwyer Avenue. The Village of Arlington Heights thanks the Balmers for adding beauty to North School Park for the holiday season!
Enjoy strolling the park and taking pictures of the fun holiday displays set up by the Arlington Heights Park District, and don’t forget to hop on the Holly Trolley from 4-7 p.m. that will loop you through the Downtown and include several stops for even more entertainment! The tree in Harmony Park is also a Colorado Blue Spruce donated by the McCarter family of the block of 700 South Walnut Avenue. The Village of Arlington Heights thanks the McCarters for the great addition to Harmony Park!
As occurs every year, both trees were installed safely in their bases at North School Park and Harmony Park by the Arlington Heights Public Works Department.
The village also gives thanks to the Premium Sponsors of the tree lighting ceremony: Wells Fargo Financial Advisors, First Midwest Bank and Bartlett Tree Experts. The events would not be possible without their generosity!
