Chicago firefighters and paramedics from Chicago responded about 11:20 a.m. Sunday October 6, 2019 to a report of a recreational diver with decompression sickness. The diver aboard a dive boat was intercepted by CFD Fast Boat 6-8-8 and a 45-foot US Coast Guard vessel. The diver was transported to the 45-foot US Coast Guard vessel because of rough waters in Lake Michigan. Chicago Fire Department reports the patient is conscious, but in serious to critical condition.
The male patient was onshore at Montrose Harbor by 12:05 p.m. and transferred to CFD Ambulance 31 for emergency medical care for decompression sickness.
The patient is likely to eventually require transfer to a hospital with a hyperbaric chamber
