Crash scene on Palatine Road just west of Arlington Heights Road when rear-end crash occurred when motorists stopped to avoid spilled gravel from a semi-trailer dump truck.
Police and firefighter/paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 10:40 a.m. Wednesday October 2, 2019 to a report of a rear-end crash with possible injuries.
Police and firefighter/paramedics on arrival discovered a Ford Fusion was rear-ended by the driver of a Nissan. Vehicles on eastbound Palatine Road were stopped to avoid gravel that spilled from a dump truck.
Injuries were initially believed to be minor, and firefighter/paramedics obtained medical release/refusal paperwork from the crash victims.
A witness reported that the semi-trailer dump truck spun a 180, and spilled its gravel load. The truck did not rollover and did not appear to be damaged. The truck was not involved in the road construction project in the vicinity.
Palatine Road construction is in the final phase with one more layer of asphalt needed. There was rain in the area and the asphalt was wet. A witness said the roadway was very slippery.
Firefighters and police officers moved the gravel out of one lane to minimize the obstruction to only one other lane. Police notified IDOT, which was responsible for ordering clearance of the gravel stones.
