Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Grayslake FPD firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:20 a.m. Wednesday October 2, 2019 to West Gages Lake Road and Almond Road in Gages Lake to a report of an injured pedestrian, hit by a vehicle. Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies on arrival found a 45-year-old male with serious injuries.
The pedestrian was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the male victim was also assessed for a mental health evaluation. The male victim was discovered to have no permanent address. The driver of the vehicle that hit the man was not injured.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2007 Dodge pick-up truck, driven by a 64-year-old man from unincorporated Grayslake, was traveling westbound on Gages Lake Road, approaching Almond Road when the pedestrian quickly ran from the north side of the roadway and stopped directly in the path of the Dodge. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the pedestrian apparently intentionally ran in front of the vehicle in a self-harm attempt.
The crash scene was cleared by 8:30 a.m., but the Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that about three inches of water had accumulated on the roadway on Route 45 south of Route 173.
The Speed Limit on Gages Lake Road is 40 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View.
