Elmhurst police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:00 p.m. Wednesday October 2, 2019 to a report of a ‘man with a gun’ incident in the west parking lot at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 East Brush Hill Road in Elmhurst. Police also received a report that a woman had already entered the Emergency Room suffering a gunshot wound.
Elmhurst Police arrived on the scene and discovered a man with a gunshot wound in a silver sedan in the west parking lot near an Elmhurst Hospital entrance. The man was transported from the parking lot to the Emergency Room by Elmhurst firefighter/paramedics, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to Elmhurst Police Department.
The female victim was transferred to Level 1 Trauma Center Loyola University Medical Center, where she is undergoing treatment.
Elmhurst police are investigating the shooting incident. The female gunshot victim initially told police that her father had shot her and then shot himself in the hospital parking lot.
The male victim was identified as 73 year-old Robert Shek, who resided in the block of 300 South Rex in Elmhurst, IL.
The female victim is identified as 44 year-old Imelda Shek.
Elmhurst police said that during the course of the police and EMS response, the hospital was briefly placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of the patients and staff. The incident was contained to the parking lot of the hospital and the lockdown was quickly lifted and routine operations resumed.
