Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders was hospitalized for a heart procedure Tuesday night October 1, 2019, according to his campaign. He has indefinitely canceled future campaign appearances.
“During a campaign event yesterday evening, Sen. Sanders experienced some chest discomfort. Following medical evaluation and testing he was found to have a blockage in one artery, and two stents were successfully inserted,” the Vermont senator’s senior campaign advisor Jeff Weaver said Wednesday in a statement.
“Sen. Sanders is conversing and in good spirits. He will be resting up over the next few days,” the statement said, but it went on to say that the campaign would cancel events and appearances “until further notice.”
Before his hospitalization Tuesday night, Sanders had visited a memorial for victims of the 2017 Las Vegas massacre, and he had at least 10 events scheduled in Las Vegas and California between Wednesday and Friday, that are canceled.
Further details were not immediately available, and there was no mention of the hospitalization on the campaign’s Facebook or Twitter accounts.
