Two women were attacked by a man with a hammer Tuesday on the Ridgefield Trace Bike Trail in Crystal Lake, according to the McHenry County Conservation District.
McHenry County Conservation District police and Crystal Lake firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2019 to a 911 call reporting an attack of two women on the Ridgefield Trace Bike Trail just north of the intersection of Oak Street and Crystal Ridge Drive.
A witness reported that a male offender on a bicycle attacked a woman with a hammer, and then attacked another woman, who tried to help the first victim.
The male offender then fled the scene. Both women were transported, with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening, to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital.
The suspect was described as possibly a male/Hispanic or male/Filipino, 5’7”, in his mid-50s, clean shaven and wearing a Green Bay Packers hat with a forest green sweatshirt and dirty jeans, according the release.
The McHenry County Conservation District is investigating the incident. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Crystal Lake Police Department and McHenry County College police assisted the McHenry County Conservation District police. The Ridgefield Trace Bike Trail is an off-road trail behind houses that heads east from Oak Street for about 700 feet until Midlane Drive, another 1800 feet to Larium Lane, and another 1500 feet to Walkup Road.
