Miami Dolphins linebacker A.J. Duhe, nose tackle Bob Baumhower, and defensive end Doug Betters celebrate after a muddy victory in the 1982 AFC Championship Game on January 23, 1983 at the Orange Bowl in Miami after the Dolphins beat the New York Jets 14 to 0.

The photo was one of 100 photos chosen by a panel of top photographers and photo editors in the sports field, who selected the 100 greatest pictures in league history in honor of the NFL’s 100th season.

The photo was also featured on the official Twitter account of the Miami Dolphins on June 26, 2014.

After graduating from Arlington High School in Arlington Heights , Illinois in 1974, Doug Betters played college Division I football for the University of Montana Grizzlies from 1974 to 1976.

Betters transferred to the University of Nevada, Reno in 1977. The following year, he was a 6th round draft pick for the Miami Dolphins.

Betters was a part of Miami’s “Killer B’s” defense, and was a player in Super Bowl XVII and XIX. In 1983, Betters recorded 16 sacks in 16 games and won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award. He was also named to the AFC Pro Bowl team in 1983. Betters was named Miami Dolphins “Outstanding Defensive Lineman” in 1983 and 1984.
