Nunda Rural Fire Protection District firefighters responded about 10:00 a.m. Wednesday September 18, 2019 to a report of a house fire with a possible explosion in the garage in the block of 3800 McCabe Street, Burtons Bridge.
Firefighters arrived to find a garage and camper involved with fire. The camper was parked in front of the garage. Nunda Rural Fire Protection District reported both the camper and the attached garage connected the single-family home were fully engulfed with fire.
A resident at home was able to rescue two of three dogs in the house, but firefighters rescued the third dog — a 5-year-old pit mix that required oxygen treatment immediately after after removal from the house.
No people initially reported any injures.
Firefighters from Algonquin, Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Fox River Grove, Grayslake, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, McHenry Township, Mundelein, Round Lake, Wauconda, Wonder Lake, and Woodstock assisted Nunda Rural FPD firefighters.
The Red Cross also responded to help the family.
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation. Burtons Bridge is an unincorporated community on the Fox River, northeast of Crystal Lake, along Route 176, and south of Moraine Hills State Park. The fire scene was about one block from the Nunda Fire Protection District fire station.
