The father of the baby girl born to accused murderer JoAnn Cunningham has died in Kokomo, Indiana of an apparent drug overdose. Daniel Nowicki, Jr. age 37, died Sunday, September 29, 2019 at 7:09 p.m. at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Kokomo, Indiana. According to the Howard County Coroner Dr. Steven Seele, Nowicki is suspected of dying from a drug overdose.
In August 2019, DNA test results revealed in court showed that Daniel Nowicki Jr., who previously lived with JoAnn Cunningham in Crystal Lake, is the father of her daughter, who was born May 31, 2019.
Nowicki had lived with the Freund family in 2018, but had moved out before AJ’s death and was not charged in the murder case. Nowicki was also in custody for an unrelated aggravated battery charge at the time of AJ Freund’s murder. Nowicki was released from jail after pleading guilty to charges of aggravated battery that involved a scuffle with hospital staff in December 2018. After he was released from a drug rehab program, Nowicki tested positive for cocaine and was arrested. Nowicki was released from jail again. Immediately before he died, Nowicki was staying with friends in Indiana, while prosecutors in Illinois were attempting to revoke his probation.
Joanne Cunningham, 36, and Andrew Freund, 60, are charged with murder in the death of their son, 5-year-old Andrew “AJ” Freund, whose body was found in a shallow grave on Wednesday April 24, 2019 after he had been missing for six days.
