Police and firefighter/paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 7:18 AM Wednesday, September 11, 2019 to a report of a crash involving a semi-trailer truck and a passenger vehicle at Rand Road and Thomas Street. The crash appeared to have occurred in the intersection, but both vehicles were located on Rand Road just west of the intersection after the crash.
Police and firefighters/paramedics arrived to find a passenger vehicle in front of a semi trailer truck in the westbound shoulder lane of Rand Road just west of Thomas Avenue.
Paramedics evaluated a male driver in the black passenger vehicle, and that patient refused transportation to the hospital with apparently initially minor or no injuries reported.
The black passenger vehicle had minor damage along the driver side of the vehicle with debris in the intersection of Rand Road and Thomas Street.
Arlington Heights Police Department investigated the crash, but it was initially unknown whether any citations were issued. From the observation of the final positions of the vehicles and damage to the passenger vehicle, it appeared that the truck was initially westbound on Rand Road and the passenger vehicle was initially westbound on Thomas Street.
First classes at John Hersey High School start at 8:15 AM. The crash did not appear to involve any students. There was little or no pedestrian traffic crossing Rand Road, but vehicle traffic was heavy as students were arriving for school and drop-off drivers were leaving the school.
Thorntons, a new 24-hour gas station and convenience store has not yet opened for business, and the driveways for the business are not yet open.
The crash was cleared from westbound Rand Road just west of Thomas Street by 8:30 a.m.
