Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:30 AM Sunday September 29, 2019 to a report of a person in the water after jumping from a bridge near 5952 North Central Ave Chicago, Il. Squad 2 divers were going in the water about 11:45 a.m. with SCUBA Dive Team Unit 6-8-7 about 7 minutes away. The Chicago Fire Department rescue helicopters were initially grounded due to weather, but Rescue Helicopter 6-8-2 was able to respond about 12:04 p.m. and later completed an aerial search of both sides of the river bank. The rescue helicopter completed its final pass by about 12:45 p.m. and returned to quarters.
No victim was found and crews began returning about 12:50 p.m.
The diving rescue scene is located at the North Branch of the Chicago River near Central Avenue, which is located near the Edgebrook Golf Course, Edgebrook Woods, and Thaddeus S. “Ted” Lechowicz Woods.
Central Avenue is blocked between Elston Avenue and Caldwell Avenue, just south of Devon Avenue.
