SEVERAL POLICE OFFICERS INJURED WITH SMOKE INHALATION DURING RESCUE
A teen was critically injured in a fiery single-vehicle crash in Carol Stream that also send several police officers to the hospital.
Carol Stream police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:06 PM Friday August 30, 2019 to a report of a vehicle crash into a tree at Mohican Road and Pocahontas Trail Carol Stream, Il. Battalion 28 on arrival reported a crash with a person trapped and a significant fire. A male driver, age 17, suffered life-threatening injuries was trapped in a van
Medic 16, Medic 27, Medic 20, Medic 29 en route by 7:10 p.m. Battalion Chief 28 reported the fire extinguished by 7:11 p.m. with one patient still entrapped.
Extra medics (ambulances) were called to the scene for several police officers with smoke inhalation that occurred during the rescue. Seven police officers and one civilian were transported to Central DuPage, and Amita Health Glen Oaks Hospital in Glendale Heights for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Three additional ambulances — Medic 31, Medic 38, Medic 58 — were assigned to the crash scene by 7:28 p.m.
A medical transport helicopter was requested by command at 7:30 p.m. but was canceled by 7:33 p.m. when the patient was extricated.
