A 34 year man and a 13-year-old girl were transported Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center after a crash in Round Lake Beach late Saturday.
Round Lake Beach Police and Round Lake FPD firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:33 p.m. Saturday August 24, 2019 to a report of a crash into a condominium building at West Clear Water Circle and Long Lake Drive. The occupants in the vehicle were reported trapped in the vehicle. The residents of the condominium building were not home when the crash occurred, and no other injuries were reported.
A teen girl and male driver were transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where both were pronounced dead.
The 13-year-old girl of Round Lake Beach was initially believed to be a passenger in an orange 2006 Pontiac G6, when the male driver, age 34 of Chicago, lost control while speeding along Long Lake Drive. According to Round Lake Beach police, the 2006 Pontiac G6 was eastbound on Long Lake Drive and entered a 25 mph zone before the crash. A witness reported the driver was speeding.
Two units were damaged in the 2-story condominium building, according to Round Lake Beach Police Department. Round Lake Fire Protection District requested a MABAS Division 5 Box Alarm (#2653) for structural collapse response technicians, firefighters, and equipment from Gurnee, McHenry, Newport, Spring Grove, Buffalo Grove, Lake Zurich, Mundelein, Wauconda, Countryside, Libertyville and Waukegan. Special equipment from MABAS Division 5 was also dispatched to stabilize and secure the condominium building.
The identities of the Round Lake Beach girl and Chicago man were initially withheld pending notification of family members, according to Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper. Autopsies are scheduled for Monday, August 26, 2019.
Police say the male driver had been dating the teen’s mother before the crash occurred.
The crash is under investigation by the coroner’s office and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
