Wauconda Fire Protection District responded at 6:51 a.m. Saturday August 10, 2019 to a report of a serious crash in the block of 200 North Main Street in Wauconda.
Police and firefighter/paramedics upon arrival discovered a red Ford F-250 stuck a parked car, and then left the roadway and struck a tree and a utility pole with power lines down. A male driver, age 17, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pickup truck was heavily damaged, but no other people or vehicles were involved in the crash, except the park vehicle.
The identity of the driver was not initially released as Wauconda police were working to confirm the driver’s identity and make proper notifications to family.
Wauconda police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team are investigating the crash. Main Street was closed between Slocum Lake Road and Lewis Avenue for an extended accident investigation. The Speed Limit at the crash scene, according to Google Maps Street View, is 25 MPH.
An autopsy by the Lake County Coroner’s Office is scheduled for Monday August 12, 2019.
