Aurora police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday August 7, 2019 to a report of a person shot in the block of 500 South Lasalle Street. When police officers arrived they found a female victim, age 23, with a gunshot wound. Firefighter/paramedics treated the victim with Advanced Life Support, but after a period of time with medical treatment the woman was pronounced the scene.
Police identified the victim as Jeanette Luna, 23, of Aurora.
Aurora Police Department detectives responded and began interviewing potential witnesses, canvassed the neighborhood and investigated the circumstances of the incident. Aurora’s Crime Lab and evidence technicians also responded to the scene to identify and collect forensic evidence from the shooting.
During the course of the investigation, detectives determined that a male juvenile was in possession of a firearm when it was fired inside the home, and that the juvenile fled the home shortly after the gun was fired. The male juvenile was located by investigators just prior to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at another home in Aurora, and was taken into custody at the house.
The male juvenile now faces criminal charges in connection with the shooting death of Jeanette Luna, and was charged with involuntary manslaughter and unlawful use of a weapon with no FOID card, according to Aurora Police Department.
