The identity of a body found about 6:11 p.m. Sunday July 28, 2019 in the Des Plaines River in Buffalo Grove was released Friday August 2, 2019. The body of Raj Rawal, age 50, who drowned in the Des Plaines River, according to the Lake County Coroner, was found near the northeast corner of Lake Cook Road and Milwaukee Avenue, near the address of 2150 East Lake Cook Road in Buffalo Grove.
Initially, police officers found Raj Rawal’s bike, cellphone and keys on Saturday July 27, 2018 along the shoreline of the Des Plaines River, near the Lake County Forest Preserve and north of Potawatomi Woods in Cook County.
On Sunday night, July 28, 2019, police canceled the missing persons alert for Raj Rawal, when they found the body in the Des Plaines River — believed to be the body of Raj Rawal.
Police officers — using K-9 units, a drone, a helicopter, and boats — had been searching for Rawal since he was reported missing from his home in unincorporated Deerfield. His family reported that he recently showed signs of depression, and that he was last seen Saturday July 27, 2019 leaving home on his bike.

Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper said the death investigation is ongoing, and complete autopsy results are pending toxicology reports.
