The residents were not home at the time of the fire, but firefighters rescued a dog, a bird and a gecko after the homeowner called in to report the pets were in the house.
Algonquin, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove (?), Hampshire, Marengo, McHenry Township, and Woodstock firefighters and chiefs assisted Huntley at the fire scene. Carpentersville, Genoa-Kingston and South Elgin crews provided standby fire station coverage.
Fire investigators initially suspect the fire started in the sun room. The cause is still under investigation, and is not considered suspicious. The initial damage estimate is $135,000.
The fire was contained to the sun room and attic, but smoke and water damage exists in other parts of the house.
The fire was under control in about 20 minutes, and the MABAS Box Alarm was struck out by 11:20 a.m.
