A Fox Lake police officer and a 65-year-old female motorist were injured when a female driver crashed into the rear-end of a Fox Lake police SUV while it was on a traffic stop Tuesday August 26, 2019 at about 1:55 p.m. on Rollins Road near Maple Avenue in Fox Lake.
A gray 2004 Hyundai sedan, driven by a 65-year-old Ingleside woman, was headed westbound on Rollins Road about 35-40 mph when she “failed to yield to a squad car which was conducting a traffic stop” when her vehicle struck the rear of the police SUV, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The fully marked police car with lights activated was stopped during a traffic stop of a vehicle at the time of the crash. Witnesses reported the driver did not slow down before hitting the police car, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver of the Hyundai and the police officer were both injured, and were transported by ambulance to area hospitals with injuries that were initially believed to be non-life-threatening.
Both vehicles were significantly damaged in the crash.
Fox Lake police requested that the Lake County Sheriff’s Office conduct the investigation into the crash, and the crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office while citations are pending.
