El Paso Police Department and area firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:00 a.m. MDT Saturday August 3, 2019 to an Active Shooter incident near the Cielo Vista Mall and Walmart. The Walmart Supercenter is located at 7101 Gateway Blvd W, just west of the Cielo Vista Mall.
UPDATE: The suspect was arrested at 11:06 am.

KTSM NBC-affiliate initially reported that 18 people were shot inside the Walmart. Photojournalist Mark Lambie reported at 12:23 p.m. MDT that “early word says 18 adults and four children dead inside Walmart at Cielo Vista Mall.” Lambie also reported at 12:07 p.m. MDT that police were still looking for the shooter.
A female witness that was grocery shopping saw — from the parking lot — a man wearing a black T-shirt, cargo pants and hearing protection, aim a rifle and shoot at people in the parking lot and then walk into Walmart.
A police officer at a quick press conference at about 12:56 MDT said there is no imminent threat, but cautioned that the situation is subject to change. The unidentified police officer said police have secured the scene at perimeter.
Prior to an official press conference, the report was 18 killed and 17 wounded.
El Paso Police announced about 12:53 p.m. MDT that anyone looking to reunite with loved ones who may have been inside the Walmart or Cielo Vista Mall should meet at MacArthur Intermediate School located 8101 Whitus Dr.
