Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 1:40 p.m. on Sunday July 28, 2019 to a report that a person was run over by a vehicle in the block of 38400 North 4th Avenue in unincorporated Spring Grove.
Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene and located a 40-year-old man, of the block of 27900 West Rowe Avenue, unincorporated Spring Grove, with critical injuries. The injured victim was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was initially listed in critical condition. The victim’s condition was upgraded to “serious, but stable condition” while remaining hospitalized.
Preliminary investigation showed that the 40-year-old man, a 39-year-old man of the block of 38300 North 5th Avenue in unincorporated Spring Grove, and the driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Pickup Truck, who was a 22-year-old man of the block of 38400 North 4th Avenue in unincorporated Spring Grove, were engaged in a verbal argument regarding a lawnmower. The argument took place in the driveway or roadway area of the 22-year-old’s residence.
During the argument the 22-year-old began to drive away, pulling forward out of his driveway. As he left the driveway, the 40-year-old man was struck by an ajar rear door of the pickup truck, which knocked the pedestrian to the ground. The driver continued to drive forward and one of the rear tires of the pickup truck ran over the pedestrian.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigations Unit. No charges were initially filed but are possible as the case develops.
