Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Long Grove firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:21 PM Monday July 1, 2019 to a report of one person shot and another person grazed by a bullet at a house on Tall Oaks Drive north of the intersection of Tall Oaks Drive and Promontory Lane Long Grove, Il. A second ambulance was requested by dispatch after it was learned that a second person was grazed by a bullet. The scene was secured by Lake County Sheriff’s deputies by 12:33 p.m., and firefighter/paramedics moved up to the scene where the victims were located.
A witness reported a large police response at the scene, and that the Major Crimes Task Force arrived a short time after the initial police response. The neighborhood is northeast of the intersection of Route 22 and Route 83, just east of the Royal Melbourne Country Club and gated community.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Updates Investigation
Sheriff’s Detectives worked through the overnight hours and continued to investigate this incident.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the preliminary information gathered thus far indicates the 47-year-old female who sustained a gunshot wound was married to a 51-year-old male, who lived in the same residence. The two were involved in an argument and during the argument, the woman retrieved a firearm from an upstairs bedroom. The woman fired a shot at the man, which missed the man, but the round lodged into a wall.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office stated that the man and woman then struggled over the firearm at which time it discharged, and a round struck the woman.
The sheriff’s office stated the man has been cooperative throughout the investigation and he was released from custody during the overnight hours.
