How do old games come back from the dead? No Clips interviewed the people at GOG (gog.com) about the work they do to hunt down & release classic games, and their mission to encourage more DRM free releases.
Video games have proven to be an impressive form of entertainment, one that has spawned numerous trends over the years. Between new knowledge and technological advancements, the video game industry shows no signs of slowing down. To stay up to date, check out a few of the top video game trends you should be watching out for.
Streaming
With Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming services rising in popularity, it’s no surprise that this trend has shifted into the gaming sphere. Enthusiasts are pushing for cloud gaming abilities, which should be available in a few years with Google’s Stadia and Microsoft xCloud. These platforms and more will take gaming into the future by letting players stream games anywhere and bypass consoles.
Classic Games
The thirst for nostalgia has always been great, especially in the video game world. Today, more and more classic video game titles are returning as remasters. Video game giants such as Nintendo and Sony are even releasing old consoles.
Gaming Eyewear
As gaming continues to grow, so does its usage. Recent studies have shown that staring at a screen for too long can damage your eyes due to the blue light. Enter gaming eyewear—users can avoid the dangers of blue light and game for as long as they desire. Plus, this gear is available in a wide variety of cool, modern styles.
Major League Gaming
Competitive gaming has always been around; however, today, professional gaming is soaring in popularity. Major League Gaming has pushed professional gamers to the next level, competing in world-class events in arenas and on television around the world.
Virtual Reality
Virtual reality (VR) is one of the most promising mediums gaming manufacturers are developing. The ability to step into a virtual world is now possible and will only continue to get better. There are many VR devices available such as the Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR, and the HTC Vive Pro.
Augmented Reality
Like VR, Augmented reality (AR) is gaining more prominence via electronic devices, making it one of the top video game trends happening today. AR uses computer-generated imagery (CGI) to create an interactive experience within a real-world environment. Niantic, Inc., a popular software company, rejuvenated the medium with Pokémon Go! in 2016 and just launched Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, which is already off to a great start.
CD Projekt S.A. is a Polish video game developer, publisher and distributor based in Warsaw, Poland. CD Projekt ws founded in May 1994 by Marcin Iwiński and Michał Kiciński, who were video game retailers before they founded the company. They initially functioned as a distributor of foreign video games for the domestic market.
In 2002,CD Projekt introduced a department for developing original games, known as CD Projekt Red. The department is best known for creating The Witcher series.
In 2008, CD Projekt launched the digital distribution service GOG.com (originally as Good Old Games). GOG.com delivers DRM-free video games through its digital platform for Microsoft Windows, OS X and Linux. In March 2012, it began selling more recent titles such as Alan Wake, Assassin’s Creed and the Metro Redux series, among many others.
