A male adult killer of a Busch Gardens flamingo, deemed unfit to stand trial and who was in the process of attending several status hearings for the senseless killing of the flamingo, is dead almost two years after his cruel attack that killed the flamingo. According to witnesses in 2016, the depraved individual attacked a flock of flamingoes at Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida and was laughing when he grabbed a flamingo named Pinky and threw her to the ground on August 2, 2016. Pinky was injured so badly that the flamingo needed to be euthanized. Visitors at the park detained Joseph Corrao, age 45 of Orlando, and Tampa police arrested Corrao and charged him with felony animal cruelty.
On Wednesday June 5, 2019, Joseph Carrao, now age 48, was struck and killed by a Ford F-150 pickup truck near his home on Colonial Drive (State Road 50) near Story Partin Road in Bithlo, Florida east of Orlando in Orange County. The pickup truck driver was not injured and was not cited in the apparent vehicle vs. pedestrian accident.
Florida Highway Patrol and Orange County Fire Rescue paramedics responded to the scene. Corrao was transported to Florida Hospital East, where he was pronounced dead.
Pinky was a 19-year-old Chilean flamingo that was killed allegedly when an Orlando man picked up the bird at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and through the bird to the ground.
Pinky, a 19-year-old Chilean flamingo that was hatched at Busch Gardens, had to be euthanized after the female flamingo suffered severe trauma when an Orlando man reached into a flamingo pen, picked up the bird, and threw it to the ground about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday August 2, 2016. Pinky was transported to the park’s Animal Care Center, where veterinarians determined euthanization was necessary to humanely care for the flamingo.
