Schaumburg police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:06 p.m. Monday June 17, 2019 to a report that a person was shot in a home in the block of 1100 Stoughton Court. Schaumburg police officers arrived within four minutes, entered the residence, and discovered the body of a deceased 57 year-old male victim, and secured the scene. Schaumburg police officers also located a handgun and spent shell casings at the scene.
The caller and suspect, 84 year-old William Karras led police officers to a firearm as they discovered the body of the suspect’s 56 year-old deceased son, Nick Karras.
Schaumburg fire command requested a second ambulance respond to the scene by 9:17 p.m., but the second ambulance was returned at 9:35 p.m.
The evidence observed by police officers at the scene led to the arrest of William Karras, for the shooting death of Nick Karras. The Schaumburg Police Detective Division and Forensics Unit initiated a death investigation immediately after the discovery of the deceased victim. Schaumburg police had said Tuesday June 18, 2019 that one subject is in custody, and that the incident was being investigated as a domestic-related incident.
The facts of the case were reviewed by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the charge of First Degree Murder was authorized. Karras is scheduled to appear at Cook County Circuit Court Third Municipal District Rolling Meadows Courthouse today, Thursday June 20, 2019 for a bond hearing.
Just for the record, Schaumburg police on Tuesday morning June 18, 2019 did not initially released information a shooting occurred.
