Facebook Is Getting Its Biggest Redesign in Years
Fox Business’ Robert Gray discusses some of the big reveals from Facebook’s F8 developer conference. Co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed the newest additions being made to the popular social media platform and what to look forward to in the future.
Facebook will lose its blue banner, and the new Facebook, says Zuckerberg, will be a private social platform designed to become the center of a user’s social experience.
CNET | Updates from Mark Zuckerberg’s F8 2019 announcement.
Mark Zuckerberg said the upcoming change to Facebook is the biggest change to happen to the app and website in five years.
Zuckerberg announced the premiere of a new Messenger Desktop App with chat and video available as a native app (not using a browser) that will be available on Mac and Windows.
Facebook plans to add other business tools to its messaging apps, including businesses marketing tools and customer service tools.
Messenger will have a Friends Tab with no public content. Zuckerberg see private messages happening more and more instead of public comment threads.
No date was announced for the Messenger desktop app, but it is expected sometime later in 2019.
Digital Trends’ Caleb Denison reported that Facebook is emphasizing privacy, but probably won’t be where they want to be with privacy for another two to there years.
Overall the web site design has less of the old classic Facebook blue. Groups tab has changed. Events tab has changed. As of May 1, 2019, Cardinal News has not seen a difference with Facebook on a desktop computer using a browser or on an Apple iPhone using iOS Safari. Very little was shown on demos on YouTube, so some of this information is probably hyped up and not quite ready yet..
Facebook says it is working on letting users access WhatsApp from Facebook. Currently WhatsApp is still WhatsApp, but now it can connect via Facebook messenger.
Instagram did not get as much of an overhaul, but sales can go directly to creators on Instagram.
Portal is going international, and both WhatsApp and Messenger will be available on Portal.
Digital Trends’ Caleb Denison described Facebook’s redesign, a Messenger desktop app, and more. Here’s everything Facebook announced at Facebook F8 2019.
