Bartlett police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:26 AM Thursday May 9, 2019 to a report of a crash involving a passenger car and a semi-trailer truck at Army Trail Road and Route 59 Bartlett, Il. Police were first on the scene and reported an unresponsive female in the passenger car. Police also reported that she was the only person injured.
Bartlett Tower Ladder 3’s crew was the first fire unit on the scene, and on arrival, reported a car crash with a semi-trailer truck with a car with heavy damage.
The female patient, identified as Maritza Herrig, age 31, was transported away from the scene by ambulance at about 11:42 a.m. with paramedics from Bartlett Medic 2. She was transported to Central DuPage Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The Hanover Park Emergency Services unit was requested about 11:50 a.m. for traffic control for an extended crash investigation. Most or all fire and rescue vehicles cleared the scene by about 12:05 p.m.
Police said Maritza Herrig was driving southbound in a 2016 Honda HR-V subcompact crossover SUV on Route 59, and turned left in front of a semi-truck that was headed northbound on Route 59. A 26-year-old man was driving a 2003 Peterbilt Model 379 tractor-trailer truck northbound on Route 59 when the truck and Herrig’s Honda HR-V collided. Herrig was making a left turn from southbound Route 59 onto eastbound Army Trail Road at about 11:26 a.m. when the crash occurred.
The truck driver, who was not injured, stopped immediately. Herrig suffered life-threatening injuries from the crash, and died soon after paramedics transported her to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.
The DuPage County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of the woman killed in the crash as Maritza Herrig, age 31, of Huntley, Illinois.
Bartlett police are continuing their investigation of the crash.
The Speed Limit on Route 59 is 45 MPH both north and south of Army Trail Road, according to Google Street View November 2018.
The Speed Limit on Army Trail Road east of Route 59 is 45 MPH, and west of Route 59 is 40 MPH, according to Google Street View November 2018 and October 2018 respectively.
Route 59 was closed between Schick and Smith roads. Army Trail Road was initially closed between Petersdorf and Route 59, but was eventually closed between Petersdorf Road and Munger Road during the accident investigation, which was completed by about 4:10 p.m.
Bartlett police have not issued any citations. Anyone with information about the crash or who witnessed the crash is asked to call 630-837-0846.
