WISH-TV: 7 shot near Ball State campus, 3 critically injured and a person of interest is detained.
Muncie police responded about 12:45 a.m. Saturday May 18, 2019 to a report of a shooting at a home in the block of 2400 Euclid Avenue — less than one-quarter mile west of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
Muncie police report there was a large party at the home when a confrontation occurred, that escalated to a shooting.
Seven people were shot and transported to area hospital(s). Thre shooting victims suffered life-threatening injuries, and were listed in critical condition.
A person of interest was detained by Muncie police, but no arrests were made as of 6:00 a.m. Saturday. Police interviewed people that were at the scene in an attempt to identify the shooter.
Police said that people at the party were college-aged, but initially did not release whether they are Ball State students. The border of the Ball State campus is less than 1,000 feet from the shooting scene.
Ball State University released an alert online just at 1:04 a.m. advising students to stay away from the area as Muncie and Ball State police responded to the shooting. About 40 minutes later, the university released another alert saying there was no ongoing threat to campus.
