Today’s forecast and the forecast over at least the next 12 hours was and is difficult as storms that were expected to develop about 7:00 p.m. did not develop. There is a chance that storms could pop up at any point from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., but most likely organized storms won’t arrive until 11:00 p.m. Thursday and then continue until about 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Saturday.
While thunderstorms in northeast Illinois did not develop, a tornado developed about 35 miles just southwest of Peoria about 1:45 p.m. and another tornado developed southwest of Iowa City about 6:57 p.m. A Tornado Watch is in effect for north central Illinois, central Illinois and northwest Illinois. The nearest counties to Chicagoland that are activated with a Tornado Watch are Grundy County, LaSalle County, and Livingston County
Weather Radar (also nexrad) showed the nearest thunderstorm cells just west of Peoria about about 7:45 p.m. Small cells have started to pop up in northwest Cook County, Kane County, McHenry County, and Lake County by 8:05 p.m.
