On Thursday morning, May 23, 2019 the Lake County Sheriff’s Office was alerted that a 14-year-old Beach Park Middle School student might be in possession of a round of ammunition at the school. The Lake County Sheriff’s School Resource Officer, assigned to the Middle School conducted an immediate investigation. Out of an abundance of caution, the school went on a “soft lock-down” while the investigation commenced.
Following the investigation it was determined the student brought one round of ammunition to the school. He did not bring an actual firearm. A search was conducted of the premises and no firearms were located, only the one round of ammunition.
The juvenile will be referred to the Juvenile Justice System on charges of unlawfully possessing the ammunition and disorderly conduct. There was no evidence to suggest the juvenile was intending on causing harm to anyone at the school. Beach Park School Dist will apply discipline based on their policy and rules.
