Metra riders caught with alcohol on trains during the Memorial Day weekend could find themselves arrested or removed from the train.
According to Metra, “Sipping a cold one while you take in the scenery onboard our trains will not be an option Memorial Day weekend.” At the City of Chicago’s request, Metra will be banning all alcohol on its trains throughout the holiday weekend.
The alcohol ban will go into effect Saturday, May 25, 2019 and remain in effect through Monday, May 27, 2019. According to Metra, passengers will not be permitted to board Metra trains carrying alcoholic beverages, and any passengers on trains found with alcohol may be removed or arrested. As always, Metra reserves the right to refuse service to any parties who are intoxicated or impaired.
Metra has traditionally banned alcohol and glass containers onboard during major events and festivals. Alcohol restriction dates can be found here. The Memorial Day ban is in addition to those listed.
