Ald. Proco ‘Joe’ Moreno is in police custody after an arrest warrant was issued for him for filing a false police report, Chicago police confirm.
Defeated Chicago Alderman Proco ‘Joe’ Moreno has turned himself in to the Chicago Police Department and is in police custody after an arrest warrant was issued for him for filing a false police report, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Moreno is accused of filing a police report on a stolen car in January 2019. Moreno later admitted it was a misunderstanding between himself and girlfriend Liliya Hrabar who said she was allowed to borrow his vehicle. There were copies of text messages between the couple to prove the vehicle was borrowed. Apparently the vehicle was not returned as promptly as expected.
Chicago police have not yet released specific details about the charges.
Moreno has been the near northwest side 1st Ward alderman since 2011. Proco ‘Joe’ Moreno in 2012 tried to block a Chick-Fil-A store in his ward over LGBT issues and had other issues involving favoritism during his years in office. Moreno lost his seat to Danial La Spata, who will be sworn in as the 1st Ward alderman May 20, 2019.
Moreno is scheduled for bond court at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse Wednesday May 15, 2019 at 1:30 p.m.
