Lake Forest police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:45 a.m. Friday March 29, 2019 to a serious one-vehicle crash at Route 41 near Westleigh Road. The front seat passenger, Sierra Riley, 20, of Zion, died in the crash, according to police. Hisani Wright, 21, of Grayslake, was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was treated and released. The driver and a fourth passenger remain hospitalized with their injuries.
A preliminary examination shows the driver of a 4-door Buick sedan was driving over the 45 mph speed limit in the northbound lanes about 3:45 a.m. March 29 when the vehicle left the roadway off the right shoulder near Westleigh Road, authorities said.
The road near the crash involves a sharp curve just before the railroad viaduct. The driver did not drive with the curve and the vehicle headed straight as the roadway curve turned left. Once off the roadway, the car hit trees before coming to a stop on a steep embankment, according to police.
Police confirmed speed was a factor in the fatal crash.
Lake Forest Police are continuing a criminal investigation of the crash with assistance from the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
