Northbrook firefighter/paramedics and Illinois State Police troopers responded about 2:00 p.m. Sunday April 21, 2019 to the eastbound lanes of I-94 near the toll plaza near Northbrook.
Police and firefighter/paramedics arrived to find that a semi-truck trailer truck crashed into four cars stopped in traffic Sunday.
Several cars were stopped because of congested traffic when the driver of a semi-trailer truck failed to stop, and rear-ended several passenger vehicles and at least one commercial work van.
Firefighter/paramedics transported five patients with life-threatening injuries to hospitals.
State troopers are investigating the cause of the crash, and did not initially know or say why the truck driver failed to stop.
Eastbound lanes of the I-94 spur will be closed for several hours because of the crash. All traffic will be routed through the manual lanes on the right of the toll road, police said.
