Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:14 p.m. Saturday March 30, 2019 to a report of a rollover SUV crash in the block of 1100 North Sterling Avenue.
Police and firefighter/paramedics arrived and discovered a 2005 GMC Envoy SUV on its side with nobody inside.
A witness, who spoke to the driver of the GMC Envoy as he left the scene, gave police a description of the man. Police were able to find a person matching the description, identified the suspect as Francisco J. Martinez-Serna. He was found nearby outside an apartment building. He was bleeding from his hand and appearing intoxicated, according to Palatine police.

Martinez-Serna, age 35, admitted to driving the GMC Envoy when the vehicle crashed, police said. Further investigation revealed Martinez-Serna also uses the alias Luis A. Rivera and was wanted under that name for failure to appear for warrants of DUI/fleeing and eluding a police officer out of Lake County, and retail theft out of DuPage County, according to police.
Based on evidence and witness statements, police said the Envoy was driving southbound on Sterling Avenue when it struck the rear of a 2009 Chevy Yukon that was parked. After the GMC Envoy flipped on its side, Martinez-Serna, who was the only per person in the Envoy, crawled out and walked away, police said.
Police also was confirmed that Martinez-Serna’s driving privileges were already revoked.
Francisco J. Martinez-Serna, of the block of 800 North Sterling Avenue was charged with aggravated driving under the influence and several traffic charges.
He appeared in Cook County court on the charges Monday April 1, 2019, and bail set bail at $10,000.
Martinez-Serna is scheduled to return to court on Monday April 25, 2019 in Rolling Meadows Cook County Circuit Court.
