The Village of Arlington Heights reports that a white van with a large white front bumper will be driving slowly on streets in Arlington Heights soon. VAH says not to be alarmed if you see it on Village roadways from April 21 – May 2. The hired contractor, IMS or Infrastructure Management Services will be scanning Village of Arlington Heights streets from April 21 to May 2, 2019.
The scanning is used in planning resurfacing and reconstruction programs. The van is equipped with a laser scanning bar and numerous scanners. The vehicle will be driving at a very slow speed and may make 1 to 2 passes up and down the street.
A Laser Camera Array looks for a standard of roughness of the road according to the International Roughness Index (IRI). Specifically the scanners collect data that provides information on wheel path rutting, transverse cracking, block cracking, alligator cracking, and texture.
IMS (Infrastructure Management Services) can also determine rehabilitation practices, strategies and budgets for roadway maintenance.
The Village of Arlington Heights says do not be alarmed by the vehicle, but you can call the Arlington Heights Police Department at 847-368-5300 if you have a concern.
