National security analyst Morgan Ortagus has been a Fox News contributor and replaces former Fox News anchor Heather Nauert.
Morgan Ortagus has experience in several government positions including Deputy Treasury Attaché and Intelligence Analyst at the United States Treasury Department and Press Officer at USAID. Prior to her appointment as State Department spokesperson, Ortagus also worked as national security contributor at Fox News.
Her first government service was from 2007 to 2008 as public affairs officer at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Bush 43 administration. She spent several months in Baghdad, Iraq.
Ortagus is replacing Rockford, Illinois native Heather Nauert, who announced in February 2019 that she would not continue work as State Department Spokeswoman. Nauert left office on April 3, 2019.
