While a noon press conference was delayed, police sources have told Chicago media that the body of Andrew “AJ” Freund, the 5-year-old boy missing from Crystal Lake, was found in a field about four miles south of Woodstock near Gale Drive and Dean Street in Dorr Township.

Early Wednesday April 24, 2019, investigators and officials returned to the family home and removed several items, including a shovel, a mattress, two lawn bags and a large bin and the family dog — a boxer named Lucy.

Also Wednesday morning, Crystal Lake police investigators, FBI agents, and McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies were at a rural area south of Woodstock about 10 to 15 minutes west-northwest of the house where A.J. Freund lived on Dole Avenue in Crystal Lake. There is still police activity Wednesday afternoon in the area of Gale Drive and Dean Street.

The Crystal Lake Police Department delayed a news conference which is expected to occur noon or later this afternoon.

Crystal Lake police planned to provide an update Wednesday on their investigation into the disappearance of 5-year-old Andrew “A.J.” Freund, who was reported missing last week.

There was police activity Wednesday morning near the intersection of Route 176 and Dean Street east of Marengo and south of Woodstock, where there are large open fields, the New Life Christian Center, and Kolze’s Corner Gardens nearby. The scene is about 6.6 miles west-northwest of the family’s home on Dole Avenue — about an 11-minute drive from the home. Specifically, the police drove down a gravel road in the area of Gayle Drive and Dean Street about .75 mile north of the intersection of Route 176 and Dean Street. The scene in Dorr Township is less than four miles south of Woodstock.

Police also returned to the house of A.J. Freund and family Wednesday morning April 24, 2019 and removed a shovel, a child’s mattress, two large lawn bags, a plastic storage tub and the family dog (a boxer named Lucy) from the Crystal Lake home of 5-year-old AJ Freund.

Andrew “AJ” Freund, age 5, was last seen at his home in the 0-99 block of Dole Avenue on April 17 2019, according to the Crystal Lake Police Department. He was described with short, blonde hair and approximately 3’5” 70 LBS. Andrew “AJ” Freund was last seen wearing a blue Mario sweatshirt and black sweatpants.

Police initially announced that a press conference was scheduled for noon Wednesday April 24, 2019 at the Crystal Lake, but the press conference was delayed.
