Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Antioch firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:00 a.m. Sunday April 7, 2019 to a residence in the block of 42900 North Pedersen Lane in unincorporated Antioch, to a report of a diesel fuel tank on fire.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and firefighter/paramedics arrived to find a large diesel fuel storage tank and surrounding area on fire. The fire was extinguished by Antioch Fire Department firefighters.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and detectives conducted an investigation which revealed the homeowners had a video surveillance system at their residence. The video surveillance showed just prior to the 911 call, a male subject entered the property and began to damage items in the homeowner’s lawn. The man then set fire to the diesel fuel contained in the storage tank. The fuel ignited and caused a large explosion. The man then fled on foot from the scene.
Deputies and detectives investigated several leads and identified John J. Nolan, 32, of the block of 300 Holly Hill Road, Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, was the individual who damaged the property and set the fire.
On April 25, 2019, Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Nolan at his place of employment. Nolan indicated he damaged the property and set the fire after becoming intoxicated and angered he was unsuccessful in asking someone on a date that evening.
He was subsequently charged with Arson (Class 2 Felony) and Criminal Damage to Property (Class 3 Felony).
Nolan remains held in the Lake County Jail on $100,000.00 bail. He is next due in court on May 14, 2019 at 1:30PM in courtroom T110.
Sheriff Idleburg reminds the public all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
