Waukegan police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:25 a.m. Saturday March 23, 2019 after employees of a Waukegan hotel in the block of 3000 Belvidere Road discovered the body of a woman over the weekend while they were cleaning rooms. Waukegan police began investigating the woman’s death as a homicide when the coroner’s autopsy Monday ruled she had been strangled.
Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper identified the woman as Danette Amos-Williams, 46, of Waukegan.
“The preliminary autopsy results indicate she died from strangulation. Toxicology is pending. The investigation into her death is ongoing by our office and the Waukegan Police Department,” Cooper said in a statement.
Patrol officers on the scene confirmed the woman was dead and their initial assessment of the scene was that it was suspicious, according to Waukegan Police Comdr. Joe Florip.
Police reported they believe the homicide is an isolated incident and that the victim Danette Amos-Williams knew the offender.
