CBS 2 political reporter Derrick Blakley reports in the race for Chicago mayor, Toni Preckwinkle, behind in the polls, has released a new ad attacking her opponent Lori Lightfoot about her tenure at the OEMC and a 911 call center failure that resulted in the death of three children.
A Toni Preckwinkle campaign ad The new ad is based on a very real tragedy: A 2004 West Side fire that killed three of Dwayne and Emily Funches’ children, as well as a 12-year-old godson.
While under the direction of Chief of Staff Lori Lightfoot, the Chicago OEMC 9-1-1 center lost most of the 9-1-1 tapes critical to an investigation involving a fire that killed four children. Neighbors at the fire scene claimed there calls to 9-1-1 weren’t taken seriously.
Lori Lightfoot disputed the accusation in the ad saying, “I specifically directed the staff to make sure those tapes were preserved. Unfortunately, they were not but that had nothing to do with the deaths of those children
