Mount Prospect police responded about 3:30 p.m. Friday March 15, 2019 to a report that a school bus driver heard that a 17-year-old boy say he had a firearm, according to a department news release.
A witness in the area reported Friday that police were searching backpacks and patting students down as they exited the school bus. The search occurred near the Rand Road, Kensington Road, and Route 83 triangle.
Mount Prospect police say they had all the students exit the bus, and then the bus was search while it was empty. Police said they also searched all bags and backpacks. No gun was found, and the claim, apparently by a student, was determined to be a hoax, Mount Prospect police said.
Police said a Prospect High School student claimed he had a gun, but didn’t. The male student was charged with disorderly conduct under a Mount Prospect village ordinance, according to Mount Prospect Police Department.
Prospect High School administration notified parents about the incident.
