Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 10:50 p.m. Thursday February 28, 2019 to a report of a crash with injuries near West Fox River Road and West Short Street in unincorporated Cary.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found a crash involving a single-vehicle that struck a tree. A 2013 Toyota Highlander was discovered with significant damage with a 57-year-old male driver entrapped inside the vehicle.
The man, who lives in McHenry, was flown via Flight for Life helicopter to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He remains in the hospital with serious injuries that are initially believed to be non-life-threatening. The man’s identity was not initially released.
Preliminary investigation shows the man was traveling eastbound on Fox River Road, when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Due to the serious damage, it took over an hour for the man to be extricated from the vehicle.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
