McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies and Woodstock Fire Rescue District firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:28 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019 to a report of an SUV crash into trees on Route 120 near Thompson Road.
Police and firefighter/paramedics on arrival discovered the driver of a 2016 Subaru Forester had crashed into two trees off Route 120.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat-belt, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor, according to McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
The McHenry County coroner identified the driver as Eberhard H. Biesenthal, age 52. The cause of death was ruled blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen, according to the coroner’s office.
Initial investigation showed the man had been driving northbound on Route 120 when he crossed into the southbound lane and hit the guardrail on the east side of the roadway. His vehicle then crossed the road again and went off the road on the west side after returning to the northbound lanes.
The reason for the driver losing control of the vehicle was initially unknown, according to the sheriff’s department. A Speed Limit sign at a curve near the crash scene posts to reduce speed to 45 MPH.
The crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Coroner and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
