Elk Grove Village police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:40 PM Tuesday March 12, 2019 to a fire at a metal finishing plant, Chem-Plate Industries, 1990 East Devon Avenue Elk Grove Village, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics initially responded to a report of an activated fire alarm The first crew on arrival reported a one-story industrial building with smoke throughout. Engine 9’s crew discovered fire up in the roof, and upgraded the fire department response to a Working Fire response (Code 4) by 2:46 pm.
Mostly roofing material was burning and the fire was almost knocked by 2:58 p.m.
An extinguisher failed to completely extinguish the fire, and a 100-foot hose was connected to put water on the fire. Firefighters may have had to open the roof to expose fire beneath the roof.
Employees were evacuating on arrival of firefighters and initially no injuries were reported.
