Facebook and Instagram users around the world experienced difficulties with Facebook and Instagram on apps and via browsers on Wednesday, March 13, 2019.
There were moments when users could open Facebook or Instagram, but then functions, such as uploading photos did not work, or the pages opened slowly. Many people reported not being able to log in to Instagram.
At other moments users could not access Facebook and got a message that stated simply … Sorry, something went wrong. We are working on it, and we will get it fixed as soon as we can.
The problems with Facebook began about 10:56 a.m. CDT.
Instagram problems began about 12:01 pm. CDT, according to downdetector.com.
People from all over the world reported that Facebook was inaccessible: Denmark; Elkton, Virginia; southeast Michigan; Pacific Northwest; Joplin, Missouri; Chicago; Buenos Aires; British Columbia; Durham, North Carolina; Poland; Manchester, UK; Central Florida; Los Angeles; Lebanon; and more.
Facebook’s WhatsApp was working in Chicago, but there were issues reported with Whatsapp in other parts of the world, such as Virginia, Mexico, and the Caribbean since about 11:58 p.m. CDT. People report they were not able to send media on Whatsapp.
At 6:00 p.m. the downdetector.com map showed the worse areas for Facebook outages near New York City south to Virginia, Ontario, Chicago southeast to Indiana, Los Angeles and Seattle.

At about 6:20 p.m. Cardinal News was unable to post an update on Facebook about a water main break at Northwest Highway and Ridge Avenue in Arlington Heights.
