AIR TEMPERATURE READINGS WILL HOLD AT ABOUT 27°F UNTIL MIDNIGHT THEN DROP TO A LOW OF 23°F FROM 6AM TO 8AM MONDAY
Snowfall accumulation topped off at 4.0 inches about 11:10 a.m. Sunday morning February 17, 2019. Since noon, some freezing drizzle arrived and weighed down the fresh light fluffy snow with a heavier crust. Fresh snow depth then measured about 3.5 inches at 4:10 p.m. in Arlington Heights. Freezing drizzle will transition to all snow by 5:45 p.m. A period of significant light snow is set to begin at about 4:45 p.m. and end about by 9:00 p.m. The light snow will then taper to very light snow up to midnight, bringing about 1-3 inches of newly fallen snow for the evening. Cardinal News is forecasting an additional 2.5 inches by 9:00 p.m. Sunday, and maybe another 0.5 inch by midnight. The final snow cover for the system — including consideration of the weight of this afternoon’s glaze pressing down fluffy snow — could still measure about 6 inches when the significant snowfall ends at midnight Sunday/Monday.
Weather Radar (also nexrad.chgowx.com) shows snow precipitation covering all of northern Illinois moving east-northeast.
A light mix will transition back to occasional snow across the Chicago area by 5 to 5:30 p.m. For areas along and north of I-80 into this eve, this is expected to remain as occasional snow. Patchy slick spots will remain. Allow extra travel time & use caution. #ILwx #INwx pic.twitter.com/qQeyQGcFL8
