Aurora police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:50 PM Wednesday February 20, 2019 to a report of an outdoor fire involving plastics at Poly USA in the block of 800 North Russell Ave Aurora, Il. Firefighters used multiple 2.5-inch lines and an elevated stream of water to extinguish the fire. Firefighters reported about 3:41 p.m. that the fire was under control. Firefighters were continuing to work on the scene extinguishing hot spots and working on overhaul of the debris.
From pictures, it appeared that plastic pallets — some in tall stacks — and possibly other items were burning outside of a warehouse building.
Winds at the time of the fire were from the southwest at 13-15 MPH and gusting to 23 MPH. Heavy smoke was blowing in the direction of a residential neighborhood near Highland Avenue and California Avenue.
