Des Plaines police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:52 PM Tuesday February 5, 2019 to a report of a crash with entrapment 651 South Wolf Road Des Plaines, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a serious crash just south of the Outer Belt railroad tracks Third and fourth ambulance requested at 1:55 p.m. Engine 63’s crew reported three vehicles were involved in a crash with two vehicles with heavy damage. The crash was described as a head-on or near head-on.
Four ambulances responded to the scene; two people were transported to area hospital(s). One patient — the driver of the Honda CRV — was transported with life-threatening injuries. The condition of the second person was unknown.
A witness told police that the driver of a red Infiniti was southbound on Wolf Road and crossed the center line, crashing into a red Honda CRV that was northbound in the proper lane.
The Honda CRV spun around and ended up off the road in a parking lot. The entire roof of the Honda CRV was removed to extricate the lone occupant of the Honda. The patient was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
The red Infiniti also spun around, but remained on Wolf Road. A third vehicle — a dark sedan — received minor damage, but was also off the roadway after the crash.
There was an extended crash investigation at the scene, and Wolf Road was closed in the area beyond 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
